Preparing for Our First Session

I’m looking forward to it!
Below is some information that will help you prepare for our first session together.

  • I will always have very large, clear, hefty bags (and standing racks to hold them up) that can hold quite a few things. I often use these for any clothes that clients wish to donate, along with other items that aren’t too heavy or sharp.

  • If you’re able, it’s a good idea to save boxes and bags for heavy, fragile, or sharp items. It’s handy to have cardboard boxes and grocery bags on hand to transport these items for donation.

  • If our project can benefit from banker’s boxes, which are amazingly helpful if we will be sorting paperwork and/or mail, I always have a stash of these on hand and can bring them with me.

  • I also have my fabulous label maker (because what pro organizer doesn’t), which we can use whenever needed.

  • If there are any other specific supply needs we discussed during your consultation, I’ll send an email about them!

  • And please, always mention anything else you think of - you know your house and your items best! What has worked well for you in the past when you have organized on your own? If there are specific tools that you like, it’s great to have them on hand.

Preparing supplies

  • Eat a good meal (and make sure to have caffeine, if that’s your thing!). We’ll be working hard for 3 or 6 hours (with short breaks as needed), so make sure you have the energy you need. I’ll bring snacks & drinks for myself, so no need to worry about me.

  • No need to clean up before I arrive! This is pretty important. It’s actually very helpful for me to see your space in its “natural state.” Guiding me through what’s working and what’s not is much more effective when your home looks how it “normally” does.

  • Whenever possible, reduce potential distractions. Working together toward the goals for your home takes a lot of focus - and while pets and kids are absolutely wonderful (and often way more fun than decluttering), they can make it tricky to stay on track. If you can, please have a plan for limiting phone calls, child care needs, pets, or other interruptions so we can make the most of our time together.

  • Set aside any personal items you don’t want me to see just yet. I am a 100% judgment-free gal, and that will always be the case. But I do realize we all have private things that we just don’t want to share with others, and that’s ok. So if there are items that are particularly private to you, feel free to set them aside.

Get yourself ready!

  • Parking: If there is any information I need to park my car safely, please let me know ahead of time. Also, if I must use paid parking, I ask that you reimburse me for that expense. Thank you!

  • If you need to reschedule or cancel: If you need to reschedule or cancel at the last minute, please text me at 971-236-3396, versus sending me an email. I don’t often check my email late at night or early morning. You can view my rescheduling policy on the FAQ page here: Read the Reschedule and Cancellation Policy.

Other things to know

Always feel free to send me an email with any questions you may have before our session. I’m happy to answer them, and I always want you to have the information you need!
